About The Position

The Chief Engineer is responsible for overseeing the efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of all building systems and infrastructure. This role ensures a safe, reliable, and well-maintained environment for occupants, visitors, and staff. Key responsibilities include:

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems are fully operational, properly maintained, and compliant with safety standards.
  • Oversee daily functionality and performance of major equipment, including boilers, HVAC systems, generators, cooling towers, and refrigeration units.
  • Conduct regular inspections of mechanical rooms, equipment areas, roofs, and building floors to identify operational issues and ensure adherence to maintenance standards.
  • Perform and/or coordinate preventive maintenance activities; develop and maintain comprehensive preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Troubleshoot building system issues and implement corrective actions, including emergency response procedures.
  • Execute minor carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and general facility repairs as needed.
  • Manage work order processes, including assigning, monitoring, and closing daily maintenance requests.
  • Coordinate with external vendors for specialized repairs, construction work, and contracted services; schedule and supervise outsourced maintenance as required.
  • Oversee procurement, installation, and repair of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipment and related building components.
  • Maintain clean, orderly, and presentable common areas while ensuring facility aesthetics and sanitation meet organizational standards.
  • Supervise, mentor, and train maintenance technicians, ensuring they are proficient in technical theory, troubleshooting, and safety practices.
  • Provide leadership in hiring, scheduling, and evaluating engineering and maintenance personnel.
  • Foster a culture of safety, professionalism, and continuous improvement within the engineering team.
  • Manage vendor relationships, service contracts, and maintenance agreements to ensure quality and cost-effective performance.
  • Lead bidding processes, including developing RFPs, soliciting proposals, evaluating bids, and negotiating contracts for HVAC and other building system projects.
  • Oversee capital improvement initiatives and facility upgrade projects, ensuring alignment with operational goals.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, corporate policies, and industry best practices.
  • Lead quality assurance programs and ensure staff receive proper training on safety procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Respond promptly to emergencies, including fire/life-safety events, equipment failures, and situations requiring safeguarding of building systems.
  • Perform physical tasks such as stooping, climbing ladders, and lifting heavy loads, especially during event setups or urgent maintenance conditions.
