Leidos is seeking a Chief Engineer to act as the senior technical authority across the Public Infrastructure and Services portfolio programs. This is an excellent opportunity to provide thought leadership and utilize your technical expertise to support a dynamic and growing portfolio. This portfolio consists of a diverse set of program scope including infrastructure/cloud O&M and modernization, cyber security, end user support, and other IT services. This strategic, high-impact position blends hands-on engineering oversight with technology leadership to guide delivery and drive business growth. The Chief Engineer shapes technical vision and execution across federal programs, collaborating with executive leadership, program managers, practice area leaders, and business development teams to ensure secure, scalable, and compliant solutions aligned with mission needs. This individual serves as the authority on technical architecture, engineering best practices, and solution credibility portfolio-wide. This role offers an exciting opportunity for a visionary technology leader to guide technical execution, drive innovation, and deliver meaningful mission outcomes on large-scale federal projects. This position requires a technical leader who is ready to both roll up their sleeves to solve hard, interesting problems as well as step back and set a technology vision for growing the portfolio. This position will be empowered to make necessary decisions and will have the support from the senior portfolio leadership and a broad technical workforce to accomplish your responsibilities. Requirements

  • Master’s degree, or equivalent, preferably in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 15+ years of progressive experience working in a technical discipline, including leading architecture and engineering strategy within large, complex IT environments.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership with large-scale IT solutions in enterprise environments.
  • Experience directing architecture and engineering efforts, including cloud solutions, end-user computing, infrastructure, and security.
  • Experience supporting managed IT services environments, including service desk, desktop management, and data center operations.
  • Excellent leadership qualities, including effective communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills to build effective relationships with staff, customers and teammates.
  • Strong analytical and strategic planning skills with a high degree of detail orientation to thrive in deadline-driven environment.
  • Experience developing Basis of Estimates (BOE) for proposals
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a public trust security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a Chief Engineer, Chief Architect, or similar technical leadership role within federal IT.
  • Familiarity with ITSM platforms (e.g., ServiceNow), Microsoft Windows/Active Directory, cloud services (AWS, Azure), Agile development, and Unix/Linux.
  • Prior support of large federal portfolios.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the program teams, Division leadership, and CTO organization to identify technology and solution roadmaps to improve mission enterprise capabilities and broad Leidos contribution in mission attainment resulting in increased contract growth and improved customer satisfaction within the portfolio.
  • Identify and drive synergies across portfolios and programs and gain efficiencies by sharing best technologies and practices to identify how programs can be strengthened with application of mission drivers, technology and/or innovation and/or IR&Ds.
  • Lead technical reviews, approve major architectural decisions, and ensure adherence to engineering best practices.
  • Oversee program execution, ensuring technical delivery meets all requirements, timelines, and compliance standards.
  • Serve as technical lead or solution architect for capture and proposal initiatives, shaping solutions that meet customer evaluation criteria.
  • Engage with customers’ technical leadership to communicate strategies and support adoption of new technologies.
  • Mentor senior engineers and elevate technical discipline throughout the organization.
