About The Position

Planned Parenthood of Southwestern Oregon (PPSO) has been dedicated to providing expert reproductive health care and sexuality education in Southwestern Oregon for over 55 years. PPSO provides more than 30,000 patient visits each year at four health centers and via telehealth. PPSO is also regarded as the region’s most respected provider of medically accurate sexuality education for young people and adults, as well as training programs for professionals who work with youth and families. Education and training programs make over 10,000 contacts each year, transforming the lives of young people in southwestern Oregon. PPSO’s essential health services include breast and cervical cancer screenings, well-woman annual exams, birth control, abortion care, LGBTQ+ health, STI prevention, testing and treatment, pregnancy testing, PrEP (Pre-exposure prophylaxis), HPV vaccinations, vasectomies, and more. Join our dedicated and mission driven team as we work to serve more than 40,000 individuals a year with comprehensive reproductive healthcare, education, and advocacy. As a member of the Executive Team, the Chief Development Officer is responsible for leading the organization’s fundraising strategy, revenue generation, and donor relationship management to ensure long-term sustainability in furtherance of PPSO’s mission and vision. Working closely with the CEO, the CDO will report on revenue progress, set goals, and develop long-term fundraising strategies around all charitable revenue sources, including major gifts and capital campaigns. The CDO will lead, manage and mentor Development department staff and provide general oversight of all departmental responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field such as Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, or Communications.
  • 8-10 years of proven fundraising leadership experience in the nonprofit sector, with a track record of meeting and exceeding ambitious fundraising goals.
  • Knowledge and experience working on capital campaign projects.
  • Experience using fundraising software.
  • Proven ability to develop and sustain meaningful relationships with various constituencies include Board of Directors, staff members, donors, foundations, and civic leaders.
  • Exceptional decision-making, problem solving and priority-setting skills.
  • Strategic thinker with excellent analytical abilities and judgement.
  • Excellent communicator, speaker, and listener.
  • Strong personnel management and administration skills.
  • Strong negotiation, budget development, and oversight skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients and co-workers of all backgrounds.
  • Willingness and ability to adapt to change, including advances in technology.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the CEO to create and implement an annual strategic fundraising plan that supports the vision, including individual giving, annual fundraising, grants, corporate giving, major gifts, and legacy giving.
  • Set annual fundraising goals by segment and develop budgets according to short-term and long-term objectives. Set annual growth targets for all development revenue streams.
  • Build a culture of philanthropy within the organization, board leadership, and the community.
  • Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with a portfolio of existing major donors while developing strategies to secure new financial support.
  • Utilize data to drive decision making, create donor segmentation, and enhance predictive financial modeling for the organization.
  • Lead the development of all donor communications and fundraising materials and partner with CEO on all external communications.
  • Lead and participate in donor planning and cultivation.
  • Oversee and serve as a project manager for foundation grants.
  • Prepare personalized proposals for individual major gift prospects.
  • Oversee prospect research on donors or new prospects.
  • Provide leadership and own all elements of charitable fundraising related to capital campaign projects.
  • Expand communities of supporters across demographic groups including people who have not been reached through previous fundraising efforts.
  • Establish and maintain contact with prospects to develop their interest and participation in major PPSO fundraising projects and provide information concerning the utilization of gifts.
  • Support Board of Directors and Board Development Committee in increasing annual giving and engagement.
  • Cultivate and maintain positive interactions with the public. Build and maintain positive interpersonal relationships with the Board of Directors, other volunteers, and prospects. Liaise with PPFA and other Affiliates on fundraising strategies.
  • Represent PPSO at local and national professional fundraising organizations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Assist in implementation of PPSO’s strategic plan.
  • Assist in the development of PPSO’s annual budget.
  • Work collaboratively with CEO, staff, Board of Directors, and other volunteers.
  • Contribute to PPSO’s culture by modeling leadership principles and ensuring accountability.
  • Provide direct and indirect supervision and management of Development Department staff.
  • Participate in the selection and hiring of department personnel.
  • Ensure staff time records are approved on time and certify their accuracy.
  • Provide consultation, problem solving, and monitoring of staff performance and evaluation.
  • Recommend and implement training needs, employee corrective action, probation, or termination as indicated by personnel policies.
  • Operate within the policies and procedures of PPSO.
  • Participate and engage in PPSO DEIB initiatives.
