About The Position

The Chief Development Officer (CDO) is a senior executive leader responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing a comprehensive fundraising and development strategy that advances the organization’s mission and long-term sustainability. The CDO provides strategic leadership and management for all philanthropic efforts, including major gifts, annual giving, planned giving, corporate and foundation relations, special events, and donor stewardship, including the management of existing grants, as well as the identification and pursuit of new grant opportunities. As a key member of the executive leadership team, the CDO partners closely with the CEO, Board of Directors, and senior leaders to cultivate strong donor relationships, inspire philanthropic investment, and build a culture of philanthropy across the organization. Teamwork is a priority, along with a positive and professional attitude. Must enjoy working in a high energy environment, maintain strict confidentiality, and show a high level of initiative in managing the Development team and all development initiatives.

Requirements

  • Minimum requirement of a Bachelor’s Degree with a Master’s Degree preferred.
  • 5-7 years of related fundraising and development experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Knowledge and experience with management and donor stewardship software with preference for Salesforce.
  • Prior supervisory and management experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be detail-oriented, able to prioritize and multitask with the capability handle multiple individual requests.
  • Time management and organizational skills to meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to be flexible and available to work occasional evenings and weekend as required for special events and donor cultivation.
  • Willingness to perform reasonable job tasks not part of immediate job responsibilities but significant in maintaining member satisfaction and achieving position and agency goals.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive development plan and strategies to further fundraising efforts and capacity for the ERJCC. This includes annual fundraising and appeal, special fundraising events, corporate sponsorship, planned giving and endowment and grant maintenance and procurement.
  • Implement appropriate plans and strategies to achieve goals.
  • Write and develop proposals, materials, solicitation letters, invitations and other fundraising materials.
  • Create a variety of collateral pieces as needed in partnership with the marketing department.
  • Direct solicitation of gifts.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive donor stewardship plan.
  • Track and report metrics for various development initiatives.
  • Collaborate with direct reports, support staff and volunteers to implement and execute planned strategies.
  • Manage existing grants to include tracking metrics and outcomes, developing internal reporting system, maintaining historical records and working with staff to ensure that each project/program is meeting proposal conditions, expectations and deadlines.
  • Perform prospect research on foundations and corporations to evaluate and identify new potential grant opportunities and liaise with program staff on submission of grants.
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit and/or steward prospective and existing donors.
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit and/or steward prospective and existing corporate sponsors/partners.
  • Develop long range plan and strategies for planned giving and endowment.
  • Manage a portfolio of prospects and actively develop prospect list to grow donor portfolio.
  • Work collaboratively with Development team and other Evelyn Rubenstein JCC staff and volunteers.
  • Stay current on local and regional fundraising climates and trends.
  • Perform other reasonable duties as assigned.
  • Attend donor and stewardship events as required.
  • Engage and attend to donor needs.
  • Meet and interact with members, guests and donors.
  • Serve as a resource for philanthropic appeals and avenues of giving within the J.
  • Serve as a member of the Evelyn Rubenstein JCC Executive Leadership team.
  • Attend staff meetings.
  • Participate in agency-wide in-service training programs.
  • Participate in agency-wide open houses/program registrations/special events and programs as required.
  • Always serve as a positive representation of the Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center.
