About The Position

A mission-driven nonprofit organization focused on expanding access to safe, affordable housing and strengthening communities across Los Angeles County is seeking a strategic and relationship-oriented Chief Development Officer (CDO). This executive will lead all fundraising and resource development efforts, building a sustainable and diversified revenue model to support long-term impact. The CDO will serve as a key member of the executive leadership team and play a central role in shaping organizational strategy, elevating the organization's visibility, and deepening engagement with donors, partners, and stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in business administration, marketing, public relations or related
  • At least 10 years of related experience
  • Strong leadership skills with experience building and managing teams
  • Exceptional relationship-building abilities with diverse stakeholders, including donors, board members, and community leaders
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to translate vision into actionable plans

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement a comprehensive development strategy aligned with organizational priorities and growth goals
  • Partner with the CEO and board leadership to position philanthropy as a core driver of mission success
  • Identify new funding opportunities and innovative revenue streams to expand impact
  • Oversee all aspects of fundraising, including major gifts, institutional giving, corporate partnerships, and special initiatives
  • Cultivate, solicit, and steward high-level donors and prospects, with a focus on building long-term relationships
  • Lead efforts to secure significant philanthropic investments that support both programs and organizational capacity
  • Work closely with the Board of Directors to strengthen fundraising engagement and governance support
  • Serve as an external ambassador, representing the organization in the community and with key stakeholders
  • Build strategic partnerships that enhance visibility and resource development opportunities
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing development team, fostering a culture of accountability and collaboration
  • Establish clear performance metrics and systems to track progress toward fundraising goals
  • Ensure effective use of data and technology to support donor engagement and decision-making
  • Collaborate with communications and program teams to ensure consistent, compelling messaging
  • Strengthen the organization's case for support by clearly articulating its impact and vision
  • Elevate storytelling efforts to inspire donor investment and community engagement
