The Deputy County Appraiser, under the direction of the County Appraiser, performs a broad range of professional appraisal and operational duties. This position serves as the acting authority in the absence of the County Appraiser and is responsible for the day-to-day administrative oversight and operational management of the Appraiser’s Office. Strategic Leadership, Performance Management, & Organizational Development Advises the County Appraiser on division operations, compliance, and resource needs; leads strategic planning and policy support aligned with Sedgwick County’s Strategic Plan; establishes and monitors KPIs to measure service delivery and operational performance; reports progress and outcomes to leadership; and promotes a high-performing, inclusive culture grounded in accountability, collaboration, respect, engagement, and staff development. Operations, Compliance, & Financial Management Provides day-to-day operational oversight of the Appraiser’s Office to ensure efficient workflows, consistent service delivery, and adherence to established procedures and County policies. This role supervises project leads and administrative staff, drives operational consistency and continuous improvement, and supports the County Appraiser in meeting Kansas statutory and regulatory requirements, including maintaining Property Valuation Division (PVD) specifications and compliance standards. The position also assists with researching, developing, and monitoring the annual operating budget to support responsible resource planning and fiscal management aligned with departmental and County priorities. Customer Service, Communications, & Innovation The Deputy County Appraiser sets and reinforces high customer service standards through coaching, clear communication, and performance expectations; researches and responds to inquiries from the public, County Commissioners, internal departments, and Appraiser’s Office staff; and builds collaborative relationships with County partners to improve coordination and service outcomes. The role provides appraisal-related subject-matter expertise and timely guidance to internal and external stakeholders, partners with the County Appraiser and County Communications to support accurate and transparent public messaging and supports modernization and continuous improvement efforts including technological solutions and best practices that enhance efficiency, accessibility, and service delivery.
