About The Position

Davis County Controller's Office is currently hiring for Chief Deputy in Farmington, Utah. This position performs supervisory and professional administrative duties relating to statutory functions. This is an appointed at the discretion of the County Controller, and works closely with the Controller to fulfill the desired objectives of the office. Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, public or business administration, or a closely related field.
  • Five years of full-time professional experience related to one of the following areas: governmental accounting, finance, certified tax rates, budget and forecasting, internal audit, or County Auditor duties; experience must include at least two (2) years in a supervisory capacity.

  • Preference may be given for a related graduate degree (including MBA or MPA), or professional credentials (i.e., Certified Public Accountant, Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Government Financial Manager, or other related certification).

Responsibilities

  • Assists with the annual external audit of the County and preparation of the County budget.
  • Manages the tax administration area of the County, including the oversight of tax relief programs, the calculation and setting of property tax rates, and the completion of all required financial reporting to the State.
  • Leverages proficiency in Microsoft Excel and various financial information systems to perform multi-system data reconciliation and complex financial analysis.
  • Acts as a liaison with County departments, outside agencies and assigned committees on behalf of the Controller.
  • At the discretion of the Controller, performs special research assignments, internal audits, and county-wide financial policy development and implementation.
  • Oversees the maintenance of and documentation of all financial procedures used by County departments.
  • Performs research on a wide variety of issues including, but not limited to, financial trends, current and pending legislation, and historical performance measurements of the County.
  • Provides technical advice, training, and assistance to County departments to ensure effective administration, compliance and reporting for finance, accounting processes, and procedures pursuant to GAAP, GASB, and federal and state regulations.
  • Supervises, plans, coordinates, and directs the work of several employees.
  • Schedules workload and delegates assignments; oversees training; resolves personnel concerns including administration of disciplinary action in accordance with County policies and procedures.; evaluates performance and conducts performance appraisals; provides council to Controller on personnel matters related to hiring, assignments, and retention.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
