About The Position

As a leader with a human-centered approach and extensive experience in designing and overseeing comprehensive compliance and ethics programs within the skilled nursing or long-term care sector, you demonstrate strong communication skills and executive presence. You offer a clear vision for advancing a culture rooted in compliance, integrity, and accountability, ensuring the protection of residents, staff, and the organization. The Role Reporting to the company ownership team and Integrity Committee, the CCO acts as an independent officer ensuring the organization's adherence to legal standards and ethical norms. The CCO is responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing a comprehensive compliance and ethics program that ensures adherence to all applicable federal, state, and local laws governing skilled nursing and long-term care operations. The role partners with executive leadership, clinical leadership, HR, legal counsel, and operations to promote a culture of compliance, integrity, and accountability.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of healthcare compliance experience within skilled nursing or long-term care.
  • Deep knowledge of Medicare/Medicaid, HIPAA, and fraud/abuse laws and regulations.
  • Experience engaging with Boards, regulators, surveyors, and external auditors.
  • Master’s degree applicable to the industry, or JD preferred

Responsibilities

  • Compliance Program Leadership
  • Build and continuously improve an effective compliance and ethics program aligned with CMS and OIG guidance.
  • Serve as Cascadia’s subject matter expert for healthcare compliance, fraud, waste, and abuse prevention.
  • Regulatory Oversight & Risk Management
  • Monitor and interpret changes from CMS, OIG, DOJ, HIPAA, OSHA, and state regulatory agencies.
  • Oversee auditing and monitoring of claims submission and coding accuracy.
  • Monitor compliance with and ensure adherence to the Anti-Kickback Statute and Stark Law.
  • Conduct organization-wide compliance risk assessments; oversee internal audits and external reviews.
  • Investigations & Enforcement
  • Manage reporting mechanisms (hotlines/portals) and triage allegations promptly.
  • Lead investigations, coordinate corrective action plans, and engage external counsel as appropriate.
  • Education & Culture
  • Develop and deliver compliance education and role-based training across facilities and the Home Office.
  • Champion a nonretaliatory reporting culture that encourages speaking up and early issue detection.
  • Governance & Reporting
  • Provide regular reports and dashboards to the ownership/Integrity Committee and executive team on key risks, metrics, and program effectiveness.
  • Maintain documentation that demonstrates program design, implementation, and outcomes.
