About The Position

The Chief Clinical Officer (CCO) serves as the clinical face and voice of the organization, representing AMN as a trusted thought leader, clinical subject matter expert, and strategic advisor. This senior executive is expected to be an influential voice in the healthcare ecosystem, shaping discourse on clinical excellence, workforce strategy, and care delivery innovation. The role bridges clinical expertise with enterprise strategy, elevating AMN’s brand, supporting client retention, and driving innovation in total talent and workforce solutions. Reporting to senior enterprise leadership and serving as a core member of the executive leadership team, the CCO provides strategic guidance across clinical operations, quality, safety, research, and client advisory services while advancing AMN’s reputation as an industry leader.

Requirements

  • Visionary leadership and the ability to set and execute clinical strategy.
  • Proven ability at the Vice President level or above, with demonstrated thought leadership and reputation within the healthcare industry.
  • Strong operational leadership, including experience leading large teams
  • Expertise in budget management and financial stewardship.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Commitment to patient-centered care and clinical innovation.
  • Ability to mentor and develop clinical leaders.
  • Deep understanding of healthcare regulations, accreditation, and compliance.
  • Strategic mindset with a focus on innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Doctoral degree required: MD, DO, DNP, PhD or equivalent.
  • Open to physician and nursing executive leaders; licenses Registered Nurse or physician background required.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive leadership, including experience leading other leaders.
  • At least 5 years in a senior/executive leadership role (VP or above).
  • Demonstrated thought leadership and strong market presence within the healthcare industry.
  • Experience leading large operational and/or clinical teams with financial stewardship responsibility.
  • Active clinical license, with experience in acute care or complex health delivery environments preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Clinical Thought Leadership & Research Serve as a visible, credible clinical authority through publications, surveys, white papers, and industry insights.
  • Develop and execute a research agenda focused on clinical excellence, workforce optimization, and healthcare staffing models.
  • Translate evidence-based insights into scalable, innovative client and enterprise solutions.
  • Client Advisory & Retention Serve as a trusted advisor to strategic clients on clinical best practices, care delivery models, and workforce optimization.
  • Support relationship retention and growth through thought partnership and outcome-focused consultation.
  • Convert insight into value by operationalizing advisory recommendations.
  • Public Engagement & Brand Representation Represent AMN as a keynote speaker, panelist, and clinical expert at national forums, conferences, and webinars.
  • Amplify AMN’s voice on topics such as clinical innovation, workforce strategy, and emerging healthcare trends.
  • Strengthening AMN’s market presence as a trusted industry authority.
  • Clinical Strategy Alignment Collaborate with internal stakeholders across Sales, Marketing, Talent Solutions, and Operations.
  • Ensure AMN’s offerings reflect evolving clinical practice, regulatory requirements, and market expectations.
  • Drive integration of clinical perspective into enterprise strategy, product development, and service delivery.
  • Quality, Safety, and Operational Oversight Provide executive leadership for clinical operations and quality initiatives.
  • Oversee patient safety, clinical performance metrics, and regulatory compliance programs.
  • Lead clinical leaders and teams with an emphasis on efficiency, accountability, and engagement.
  • Advocacy & Representation Champion clinician voice in policy, workforce strategy, and industry forums.
  • Engage with regulators, professional associations, community partners, and academic institutions.
  • Position AMN as a trusted advocate for clinicians and healthcare workforce solutions.
  • Mentorship & Leadership Development Develop and mentor senior clinical leaders; support succession planning and leadership pipeline development.
  • Foster a culture of clinical excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.
