The Chemist is responsible for the chemical analysis, refining, recovery, and quality control of precious metals for the greenest specialty refinery in the US. This role ensures maximum metal yield, purity compliance, process efficiency, and environmental and safety standards while supporting manufacturing and production teams .

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or related studies required.
  • Requires minimum 5 years of laboratory experience in a chemical processing or manufacturing facility preferred.
  • Requires experience with wet chemical techniques, especially those involving inorganic materials.
  • Strong mathematical skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and through documentation.
  • Lifting is required occasionally up to 50lbs.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with an XRF Spectrometer preferred but not required.
  • Professional training and understanding of OSHA compliance requirements preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Refine specialty metals using chemical and electrolytic methods.
  • Follow routine tasks accurately and abide by strictly proven methodologies to insure proper refining.
  • Ensure purity of precious metals using several different processes.
  • Isolate precious metals from solution.
  • Maintain dependable attendance and arrive on time for all scheduled shifts
  • Chemically small batch refine customer scrap to remove and return customer stones.
  • Ensure the laboratory is cleaned, well-stocked and resourced.
  • Order and inventory materials to maintain production supplies.
  • Monitor air and wastewater treatment area to ensure green processes are maintained to highest standards.
  • Participate in safety audits, training, and continuous improvement initiatives for dealing with wet chemistry and chemical safety.
  • Assist in troubleshooting contamination, alloy defects, or yield discrepancies.
  • Provide technical support related to metal chemistry and refining processes.
  • Keep up to date with technical developments, especially those which can save time and improve reliability.
  • Work closely with production, casting, and quality teams to resolve material issues
  • Annually review processes for quality and performance to update Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's).
  • Balance multiple projects and oversee their completion from start to finish.
