About The Position

Monte Sano Research Corporation (MSRC) is a Huntsville-based Small Business specializing in providing full-spectrum defense system engineering, research, design, development, integration, test, evaluation, and planning services to the U.S. Government. MSRC is seeking a Chemist to support testing activities at Redstone Arsenal. Candidate will be responsible for assisting with propellant formulation, as well as the mixing and casting of propellants and energetics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in relevant discipline required (i.e. Chemistry, Biology, Aerospace or Chemical Engineering, etc.) degree required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in chemistry or related field within a laboratory environment.
  • Willingness to work with hazardous materials, including propellants and energetics, following proper training.
  • Strong ability to collaborate effectively as part of a team.
  • Self-motivated with the capability to work independently.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Candidate must currently possess and be able to maintain an active security clearance.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain A&E handler certifications

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a DoD or R&D environment.
  • Comprehensive understanding of propellant chemistry, and the processes involved in formulating and manufacturing propellants, rocket motors, and/or explosives.
  • Half mask respirator experience desired.
  • CDL with hazmat endorsement

Responsibilities

  • Prepare hazardous and inert chemical materials, including but not limited to weighing, drying, grinding.
  • Conduct precision weighing operations.
  • Perform propellant mixing, casting small scale test articles, and loading processes.
  • Conduct propellant performance testing and analysis.
  • Contribute to data evaluation, interpretation, and documentation of propellant properties.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and report results through regular oral and written communication with senior scientists and engineers.
  • Adhere to established Operating Procedures (SOPs) and test plans for energetic operations while providing hands-on assistance during mixing and casting activities.
  • Maintain a safe and organized work environment, and communicate effectively in a dynamic, multi-tasking team setting.
  • Document inventory adjustments in the Ammunition Tracking System (AMCATS) and assist in resolving and correcting discrepancies.
  • Utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintain a strong awareness of safety protocols.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
