This Opportunity We are seeking as needed part-time, on-call/as-needed, remote Chemist to join our team! You will be responsible for assisting the Chemistry Group with verification and validation of analytical data and data quality reporting. This position will support Bay West’s Senior Program Chemist, Project Managers, Project/Field Staff, and Data Analyst.

Requirements

  • Must have a BS/BA in chemical, environmental, biological sciences, physical sciences, or engineering from an accredited institution with at least 30 semester hours in chemistry supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus and at least 6 semester hours of physics. An advanced degree in one of the listed disciplines may be substituted for equivalent experience.
  • Must have a minimum of 10 years’ professional experience as a Chemist.
  • Must have experience with the chemical data and environmental data quality information systems.
  • Must have working knowledge of Department of Defense (DoD) General Data Validation Guidelines and USEPA National Functional Guidelines.
  • Understanding of American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM), Standard Methods (SM), and USEPA environmental analytical methods and data relationships such as field and lab quality control samples, significant figures, validation, qualifiers, multiple runs, etc.
  • Understanding of environmental field collection methods, testing, and sampling techniques such as low-flow, hydra sleeve, scoop and trowel, SUMMA, incremental, and discrete sample types.
  • Possesses analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Responsiveness to co-workers is essential. Candidate must be able to work collaboratively with a team in the delivery of solutions to challenging technical projects.
  • Excellent communication (written, and verbal) skills.
  • Ability to be self-directed and work independently, as well as a team-player.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized.
  • Strong time-management skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of EQuIS software.

Responsibilities

  • Performing detailed summary level data validation, and preparing detailed assessment reports of analytical results and quality following data validation guidance such as Department of Defense (DoD) General Data Validation Guidelines and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) National Functional Guidelines.
  • Preparing Data Validation Reports (DVRs) and Data Quality Evaluations (DQEs).
