Requirements

  • Must possess a Chemistry or related sciences degree
  • Must have three years semi skilled experience in a laboratory environment
  • Ability to read the English language
  • Ability to understand technical instructions
  • Able to work inside and outside in year-round weather conditions
  • Ability to kneel, climb ladders, and perform repetitive movements, ability to work for extended periods of time in one position, ability to lift up to 75 pounds

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all paperwork assigned to each truck shipment including checking all manifests for accuracy, entering information into the computer program, logging load information into the logbook, and assigning load numbers.
  • Operates laboratory equipment necessary to analyze waste material samples. The analysis includes, but not limited to the following: Metals analysis utilizing inductively coupled plasma equipment, Organic analysis utilizing gas chromatography, Chloride analysis, BTU and sulfur determinations using bomb calorimeter, Karl Fisher moisture analysis.
  • Participate in quality control sample analysis for verification of analytical methods compliance, including QA/QC program.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repair of laboratory equipment and maintain records or maintenance activities.
  • Prepare standard materials used for instrument calibration and qualifications.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area, including cleaning of equipment.
  • Maintains laboratory supplies inventory and coordinates with Laboratory Supervisor.
  • Act as company representative with contractors and hourly employees as needed. Must obtain technical information to accurately make decisions to maintain operations.
  • Must be able to work with and around the following substances: Hazardous waste flammable liquid, Portland cement, clinker, gypsum, raw materials.
  • Must be able to accurately run and interpret results from Benzene Runs and identify organics using Gas Chromatic methods.
  • Must be able to write up qualification samples and relay results to Lab Supervisor.
  • Must be able to review calibration records to verify instruments are running correctly.
  • Must be able to review and update SOP’s as procedures change.
  • Be able to help with month end and year end reports.
  • Responsible for major instrument maintenance and computer issues and works directly with outside contractors for trouble shooting and repairs.
  • Oversite of lab employees during the shift.
  • Determine methods used and personnel to perform assigned tasks.
  • Provide daily oral or written feedback on the workload back to the Lab Supervisor and Operations Manager.
  • Plan work load for the shift.
  • Work with Suppliers and Vendors as needed.
  • Ensure lab operations are safe by conducting thorough workplace examination on the shift.
  • Conduct detailed weekly safety meeting and document for the shift.
  • Conduct task training and perform JHA’s as needed.
  • Track and document daily SLAM sheet for the shift.
  • And other duties as assigned.
