For more information on AdvanSix, please visit our website at http://www.advansix.com Position Summary: The Field Operator is responsible for overseeing and managing the operating equipment to ensure safe, reliable, on-spec, and efficient operation of the chemical plant processes. The Field Operator monitors and controls process operating parameters and troubleshoots equipment issues to achieve production goals.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required
  • Three years of experience in manufacturing or chemical plant operations or three years of relevant educational background is required
  • Strong safety awareness mindset
  • Demonstrated ability to adhere to policies and procedures
  • Attention to detail
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and take corrective action within an industrial setting
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment
  • Strong work ethic, initiative, and ability to learn new technical skills
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate through multiple layers of an organization
  • Work effectively in a team environment
  • Work a 12-hour rotating shift schedule
  • Work in adverse weather conditions (cold, hot, humid, rain, snow, etc.)
  • Work at elevated heights – greater than 100 feet
  • Lift at least 50lbs
  • Work in confined spaces
  • Ability to handle and work with highly hazardous chemicals
  • Ability to wear and work in full body PPE (personal protective equipment) which includes acid suit (acid jacket & acid pants) – full face respirator and hood
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to obtain a TWIC card

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine inspections for leaks, hazards, and abnormal conditions to ensure a safe work environment
  • Monitor and operate plant equipment such as pumps, blowers, heat exchangers, distillation columns, and utility systems to ensure the process runs smoothly
  • Adjust valves and controls as need to maintain desired operational parameters such as level, temperature, pressure, and flow rates
  • Provide detailed verbal and written updates regarding operating activities and abnormalities
  • Troubleshoot process issues and take corrective action to ensure continuous safe operation
  • Start up and shut down unit processes
  • Draw process samples for quality testing
  • Adhere to standard operating procedures to ensure unit safety
  • Prepare unit equipment for maintenance through decontamination, lock-out/tag-out, and work permitting activities
  • Perform minor running maintenance
  • Participate as member of the Emergency Response Team (ERT), including fire brigade, HAZWOPER technician, and confined space rescue
