About The Position

Join IMEG as a Chemical Engineering Intern in Saline, MI, and jumpstart your career with hands-on, real-world experience in process design and optimization. Over 10–12 weeks, you’ll contribute to the analysis, design, and implementation oversight of chemical processes that power safe, efficient, and sustainable operations. You’ll collaborate with experienced engineers, manage tasks within project budgets, and see how your work directly supports client goals—while building the technical skills, industry knowledge, and professional network to launch your future in chemical engineering

Requirements

  • Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Chemical Engineering, or equivalent required
  • Strong interest in design consulting
  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office programs, CAD software and BIM
  • Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
  • This position is not eligible for sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior internship experience in the engineering consulting or chemical process industry preferred
  • AutoCAD and AutoCAD Plant 3D experience a plus

Responsibilities

  • Assist in designing discipline-specific systems per code and IMEG standards
  • Research commercially available equipment and other project resources
  • Support client relations, maintain project design notebooks, and prepare permanent record documentation
  • Develop Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
  • Assist with equipment and instrument specifications
  • Perform field work to document existing conditions and installations
  • Complete and document technical and engineering calculations
  • Support cost estimates, including vendor quote solicitation
  • Assist in process controls design and bid package documentation
  • Review construction progress
  • Document design decisions, meetings, and client instructions while tracking progress
  • Review project documents for accuracy and completeness before final checks
  • Prepare and issue addendum information
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated project solutions
