About The Position

The Cheer Coach is responsible for leading, instructing, and supervising the cheer team in a manner that promotes school spirit, teamwork, sportsmanship, and safety. The Cheer Coach plans and conducts practices, develops routines, prepares the squad for games and events, and serves as a positive role model for student-athletes. This position supports the overall mission of the school by fostering leadership, discipline, and pride among team members.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Previous cheerleading, coaching, dance, gymnastics, or related experience preferred
  • Knowledge of cheer fundamentals, sideline engagement, and stunt safety
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to supervise students and maintain appropriate discipline
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and flexible hours based on practice and event schedules
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification preferred or ability to obtain
  • Completion of required background check and any district-required trainings
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and demonstrate physical activities for extended periods
  • Ability to lift, spot, and assist students safely during practice and performance activities as appropriate
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and conduct cheer practices
  • Teach cheer techniques, motions, jumps, chants, stunts, and routines appropriate for the skill level of the team
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants during practices, games, performances, and other team activities
  • Supervise student-athletes at practices, athletic events, competitions, camps, and school functions
  • Promote teamwork, discipline, good sportsmanship, and positive representation of the school
  • Coordinate cheers, sidelines, halftime performances, pep rallies, and special appearances
  • Develop performance routines and prepare the team for events and competitions, if applicable
  • Work with school administration and athletic staff to ensure compliance with school, district, and athletic association rules and expectations
  • Maintain accurate records, forms, rosters, and any required eligibility or participation documents
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, administration, and other staff
  • Monitor student conduct and academic expectations in accordance with school guidelines
  • Assist with uniform distribution, inventory, fundraising, scheduling, and other program needs as assigned
  • Attend required meetings, trainings, and professional development sessions
  • Encourage inclusivity, leadership development, and personal growth among team members
