About The Position

The Charge Nurse assists the Clinical Manager and/or Nursing Director with the management of the unit including participating in employee evaluation, staffing and scheduling, patient and preceptor assignments, oversight of resource utilization, and initiating and overseeing quality improvement activities. The Charge Nurse acts as a resource and provides information/education to unit staff. The charge nurse is involved in service recovery, promoting customer service to both internal and external customers. The Charge Nurse is a role model and proponent of the professional nurse as exemplified by their presence on the unit, participation in nursing department initiatives such as the acquisition of Magnet Certification, and organizational committee meetings. We are Hiring at Jewish Hospital, Cardiothoracic Post Surgical/PCU 6 Towers Location: 200 Abraham Flexner Way, Louisville, KY 40202 Shift Options: Full-Time, 7p-7a About the Unit 6 Towers Cardiothoracic Post Surgica/PCU is a 22-bed unit dedicated to provide high quality care in a progressive/step down environment. This unit specializes in caring for post thoracic surgical procedures (Esophagectomy, Lobectomy, Wedge resection, Pneumonectomy and VATS) and patients recovering from cardiovascular interventions (TAVR, Mitral Clips, Watchman and post-PCI / stent patients). About Jewish Hospital Jewish Hospital, part of UofL Health, is an internationally renowned, high-tech tertiary referral center, developing leading-edge advancements in hand and microsurgery, heart and lung care, orthopedics and sports medicine, neuroscience, organ transplantation and outpatient care. The UofL Health – Trager Transplant Center is in a select group of hospitals nationwide that perform heart, lung, liver, kidney, pancreas and hand transplantation. The center also includes a Pancreas Disease Center, a GI Motility Clinic, and Advanced Heart Failure and VAD programs. Job Summary The charge nurse assists the clinical manager and nursing director with the management of the unit including participating in employee evaluations, staffing and scheduling, patient and preceptor assignments, oversight of resource utilization, and initiating and overseeing quality improvement activities. The charge nurse acts as a resource and provides information/education to unit staff. The charge nurse is involved in service recovery, promoting customer service to both internal and external customers. The charge nurse is a role model of the professional nurse as exemplified by their presence on the unit, participation in nursing department initiatives, and organizational committee meetings. The Registered Nurse provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures, and protocols of the healthcare organization.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program is (required)
  • All new-hire Associate Degree Registered Nurses (new graduate and experienced) are required to start an approved BSN program within one (1) year of hire and complete an approved BSN program within three (3) years of hire (required)
  • All new RN graduates will participate in the Nurse Residency program and must successfully complete all activities (required)
  • Current KY RN licensure or compact license with privileges to work in Kentucky (required)
  • Basic Life Saving (BLS) accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) (required)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) (may be required for specific clinical areas)
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) (may be required for specific clinical areas)

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program (preferred)
  • Two years of hospital patient care experience (preferred)
