About The Position

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Charge RN to join our Behavioral Health team. This position is responsible for providing direct patient care in a psychiatric mental health setting, ensuring that all nursing practices comply with professional standards and hospital protocols. As well as, reviewed the job requirements below and can verify that they can perform and feel competent with the essential functions of this position.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Nursing (ASN)
  • Current Florida RN License.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification.
  • CPI certification
  • Maintain required licenses/certifications, including Florida RN License, BLS certification and CPI Certification.
  • Complete the Department of Children and Families (DCF) online Baker Act Training modules and indicated on instruction form given upon hire and submit certificates for each.
  • Obtain Board Certification as a Behavioral Health Registered Nurse (RN-BC) if applicable within 1 year of hire if eligible.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN).
  • At least 1-3 years of experience in psychiatric nursing
  • Certification in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive assessments of patients on admission and throughout their stay.
  • Develop and implement patient-specific treatment plans.
  • Monitor patient progress and adjust care plans accordingly.
  • Document all patient interactions, treatments, and responses in accordance with hospital policy.
  • Administer medications as prescribed, including PRN medications.
  • Monitor patients for side effects and effectiveness of medications.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of medication administration and patient reactions.
  • Treat all patients with dignity and respect, maintaining privacy and confidentiality.
  • Ensure patients understand their rights, informed consent, and treatment options.
  • Act as a patient advocate and provide non-judgmental, culturally sensitive care.
  • Supervise and provide guidance to support staff, including Mental Health Technicians and other nursing personnel.
  • Participate in the orientation and training of new staff members.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to assess and plan patient care.
  • Respond appropriately to clinical emergencies, demonstrating strong decision-making under pressure.
  • Manage challenging patient behaviors, including de-escalation techniques and maintaining safety in the unit.
