About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! This position provides professional nursing care and treatment to patients in accordance with established medical protocols, serving in a supervisory capacity. The Charge RN is responsible for managing and coordinating daily nursing operations on an assigned shift or area, including oversight of licensed and non-licensed staff.

Requirements

  • Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina and one year of nursing experience.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting patient needs assessments, developing, implementing, and evaluating individualized treatment plans.
  • Delivering direct patient care, including sick call assessments, medication administration, phlebotomy, transcribing provider orders, and monitoring/treating communicable diseases.
  • Providing patient education and ensuring thorough, accurate medical documentation.
  • Responding promptly and effectively to emergencies and critical situations with limited clinical supervision.
  • Leading and supervising nursing staff, ensuring compliance with institutional protocols and quality standards.
  • This role requires flexibility to work any shift—including weekends and holidays—based on the needs of the institution.
