Requirements

  • The Charge Nurse, Level 1 supports the daily operations of the veterinary surgery department by coordinating patient flow, assisting with surgical care, and maintaining a safe, organized clinical environment.
  • This role also helps manage staff scheduling needs and provides training and guidance to support team development and consistency in patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with patient intake, surgical prep, anesthesia induction support, and recovery monitoring
  • Monitor hospitalized and post-operative patients, reporting changes to the medical team
  • Ensure accurate documentation of treatments, vitals, and patient status
  • Support daily work flow by coordinating patient movement between prep, surgery, and recovery
  • Communicate with veterinarians, technicians, and client service teams to maintain schedule efficiency
  • Help troubleshoot delays or workflow issues and escalate concerns to leadership when needed
  • Maintain cleanliness and readiness of surgical prep, treatment, and recovery areas
  • Ensure equipment is cleaned, maintained, and functioning properly
  • Follow all safety, anesthesia, and infection-control protocols
  • Provide guidance and support to assistants and other nursing staff as directed
  • Help train new team members on patient handling, workflow, and clinic protocols
  • Promote a positive, collaborative, and professional work environment
