About The Position

The Charge Nurse provides leadership, clinical guidance, and oversight of nursing operations during assigned shifts. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality, safe, and compliant patient care by coordinating staff assignments, supporting workflow, mentoring nursing staff, and promoting excellence in clinical practice. The Charge Nurse serves as the primary resource for staff collaboration, problem-solving, and escalation of clinical or operational concerns. Atlantic Rehabilitation Institute is a 38-bed inpatient acute rehabilitation hospital specializing in individualized, patient-centered therapy and medical care. Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited registered nursing program
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required
  • Child and Adult Abuse Certification required (if applicable by state)
  • Minimum of two years in a rehabilitative or acute care setting with demonstrated leadership ability (Charge Nurse or Preceptor experience preferred)

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred
  • Experience in clinical leadership, precepting, or teaching is strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and quality metrics
  • CRRN preferred

Responsibilities

  • Leads and supports nursing staff to ensure effective delivery of patient-centered, evidence-based care
  • Demonstrates strong leadership capabilities and promotes a culture of teamwork and accountability
  • Oversees daily staffing assignments based on patient acuity, census, and skill mix
  • Serves as a clinical mentor, providing real-time coaching, support, and guidance
  • Ensures timely and accurate documentation consistent with regulatory and hospital standards
  • Acts as a liaison between nurses, physicians, therapists, and interdisciplinary team members
  • Responds to changes in patient condition and assists with higher-acuity interventions when needed
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives, patient safety efforts, and hospital compliance activities
  • Supports new nurse orientation and ongoing staff development
  • Facilitates effective communication across shifts, including handoff processes and incident reporting
  • Lead and coordinate the nursing team throughout the shift
  • Complete and oversee comprehensive patient assessments and care priorities
  • Support nursing interventions aligned with individualized rehabilitation goals
  • Provide safe, evidence-based care tailored to each patient’s age and condition
  • Assist with staffing decisions, real-time problem solving, and resource allocation
  • Support patient and family education, discharge planning, and clinical communication
  • Accurately document patient progress and ensure compliance with clinical standards
  • Collaborate closely with physicians, therapists, case managers, and interdisciplinary partners
  • Promote a respectful, supportive, and team-focused environment
  • Serve as the first point of escalation for clinical and operational concerns
