Responsible for the daily shift operations of the Emergency Department at Flint Hills. This role promotes a strong team atmosphere through motivation, coaching, and conflict management, and prioritizes communication throughout the system and community to facilitate a multi-disciplinary approach to coordination of throughput and capacity management. The delivery of professional nursing care at Stormont-Vail HealthCare is guided by Jean Watson's Theory of Human Caring and the theory of Shared governance. The Charge Nurse provides strong leadership, motivates staff, organizes workload effectively, and delegates responsibilities appropriately. They may act as a leader for a Nurse Manager or Director as appropriate, and are involved in recruiting, interviewing, coaching, developing direct reports, and applying corrective actions. The position also includes performing staffing duties within scheduling guidelines and providing direct patient care as defined within the scope of the state’s nurse practice act. This encompasses assessment/data collection, administering medications and treatments, formulating goal-directed plans of care, establishing patient care priorities, preparing equipment, evaluating healthcare process effectiveness, observing and reporting patient conditions, and documenting records. The Charge Nurse also instructs patients and families, performs efficiently in emergency situations, practices problem identification and resolution, participates in quality improvement activities, clinical education, and nursing research.
