About The Position

The Charge Nurse plays a pivotal leadership role within the nursing team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care in a clinical setting. This position involves overseeing the daily operations of a nursing unit, coordinating staff assignments, and managing patient flow to maintain an efficient and safe environment. The Charge Nurse acts as a liaison between nursing staff, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to facilitate effective communication and collaboration. They are responsible for mentoring and supporting nursing staff, addressing any clinical or operational issues that arise during their shift. Ultimately, the Charge Nurse ensures that patient care standards are met while fostering a positive and productive work environment.

Requirements

  • Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice within the United States.
  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in a hospital or acute care setting.
  • Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience in a healthcare environment.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of nursing principles, patient care standards, and healthcare regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree or higher.
  • Certification in a specialty area relevant to the unit (e.g., Medical-Surgical Nursing, Critical Care).
  • Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems and clinical documentation software.
  • Proven skills in conflict resolution, team building, and staff development.
  • Familiarity with quality improvement initiatives and patient safety programs.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate nursing staff activities during assigned shifts to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Manage patient admissions, discharges, and transfers to maintain smooth unit operations.
  • Provide direct patient care as needed, including assessment, medication administration, and treatment.
  • Serve as a resource and mentor to nursing staff, offering guidance on clinical procedures and best practices.
  • Collaborate with physicians, interdisciplinary teams, and support services to address patient needs and resolve issues.
  • Monitor compliance with hospital policies, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.
  • Handle conflict resolution and address staff concerns to maintain a positive work environment.
  • Document and report significant events, patient conditions, and staffing issues accurately and timely.
