About The Position

Hospice Chaplains are specially trained healthcare workers who attend to the spiritual needs of a vast variety of individuals whose only similarity may be their terminal illness. A hospice chaplain must be familiar with a wide range of religious and spiritual expressions.

Requirements

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited school of theology and have training in grief and bereavement counseling
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in pastoral care
  • Excellent in both written and oral communication skills, including spelling and grammar
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to handle stressful and delicate situations with tact, diplomacy and attention to their importance
  • Must represent CenterCare Hospice in a positive and professional manner
  • Current Colorado Driver's License
  • Must have reliable transportation available during work hours. Vehicle must be properly registered and insured in accordance with state law
  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
  • Understands regulations/standards applicable to hospice.
  • Basic Computer Skills
  • Requires working under some stressful conditions to meet deadlines and patient needs.
  • Requires excellent listening skills and a basic understanding of the many different spiritual and religious perspectives especially as they pertain to death and dying.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in grief and bereavement counseling preferred
  • Additional languages preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist patient, caregiver/family with spiritual care related to death and dying
  • Visits patient and completes an initial spiritual assessment & routine visit notes
  • Collaborates care with interdisciplinary group and provides spiritual input into plan of care
  • Acts as liaison between the patient/family and local clergy
  • Networks with community resources and represents Frontier Hospice in the community
  • Seeks hospice support from clergy of various denominations
  • Participates in staff development and in-service programs
  • Assists the Bereavement coordinator with direct after care visitations and memorial service
