About The Position

The chaplain provides a ministry of spiritual care and emotional support to patients, family members and staff. Provides pastoral care to patients and members of their families. Adjusts the length, type and purpose of Pastoral Care to fit the needs of the situation. Provides timely response and appropriate intervention in emergency situations to patients, families and staff (i.e. Code Blue, Code Green, Trauma alerts). Consults with members of the hospital staff regarding patient and family care. Seeks and provides pertinent information to/from other disciplines regarding the care/treatment of the patient. Serves as pastoral counselor to members of the hospital staff as requested. Mentors and evaluates work of volunteers and interns who have been assigned to the staff chaplains' area of clinical responsibility. Participates in in-services, clinical educational opportunities, case review sessions and staff meetings. Helps orient, train and evaluate new staff members and interns of the department. Takes call for the department as needed.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required.
  • A master's degree from an accredited seminary required.
  • Ordination or denominational endorsement as a minister of that denomination required.
  • Completion of four units of Clinical Pastoral Education from an accredited training center
  • Board Certified or eligible required.
  • Experience: none
  • Other Minimum Qualifications: Effective interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills required.
