The MedCom Specialist coordinates the Emergency department communications through telephone and/or radio call intake. Communicates and collaborates to facilitate efficient and timely emergency medical services (EMS) assignments to ensure quality patient care and customer service. Receives and sends communications via telephone, fax, intranet, and radio. Prioritizes incoming calls according to emergency or non-emergency nature. Records information in communication tracking system. Enters bed request in tele tracking and updates status changes. Communicates with other stakeholders to make decisions on patient placement and to determine interventions required. Relays any information to leader, passing medical care information and instructions back to in bound EMS agencies based on protocols or direct physician orders. Facilitates communications between staff and other outside entities pertinent to patient care. Monitors pending communications and requests. Distributes communication devices for use during the shifts to physicians and staff. Communicates with leadership throughout the day. Maintains EMS drug box inventory and oversees the trading out of used or expired drug boxes. Participates in performance improvement projects.
