UAB Heersink School of Medicine is seeking applications for Chair, Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Genetics. The Chair reports to and works closely with the Senior Vice President for Medicine and Dean of the School of Medicine and Senior Vice Dean for Research to fulfill both UAB’s and the department’s commitment to carrying out cutting-edge basic and translational research while providing rigorous, high-quality education to the scientists of tomorrow. Required/Preferred Qualifications: 1. Ph.D., M.D. or M.D./ Ph.D. 2. Academic rank of Associate or Full Professor. 3. Accomplished leader in the field of Biochemistry & Molecular Genetics ranging from enzymology, metabolism, gene expression, protein structure/function, virology, cell differentiation, and molecular pathogenesis, academic scholarship, education and administration. 4. Strong track record of academic leadership in a comprehensive public urban research university with an academic medical center. 5. Strong ability to work collaboratively with leaders of various backgrounds and interests. 6. Competency navigating interactions with educational, research and service missions of a complex academic medical center department. 7. Proven capabilities in financial stewardship, budget management and resource allocation. 8. Solid vision for building a top-ranked Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Genetics. 9. Qualities: Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills. Exhibits a style that supports change and innovation, with an ability to delegate yet maintain overall control. Commitment to research and educational missions. A genuine appreciation for consultation and collaboration. Personal style that fosters and supports innovation.
