About The Position

AECOM is seeking a California freshwater shrimp Permitted Biologist (Biologist IV) to help deliver California's most critical infrastructure projects in the North Bay Area. This is a remote, part-time, on-call position meaning hours will vary based off of project needs. We are seeking a motivated individual to join our group of more than 100 environmental professionals in the Bay Area. This hybrid position will join our AECOM team based in the Oakland office. Assignments would generally be in the field or could be completed remotely, with limited, occasional presence required in the Oakland office. This position would support clients in northern California, with a focus on the North Bay Area region (Marin, Napa, Sonoma and Solano Counties). The position would involve occasional presence/absence surveys for California freshwater shrimp (Syncaris pacifica) and other technical support related to biological and aquatic resources such as biological monitoring, natural resource field surveys, and reporting. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, ecology, or a related field.
  • 6 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education in biological surveys, construction monitoring, environmental inspection, and habitat assessments.
  • Current state and federal handling permit for California freshwater shrimp (Syncaris pacifica).
  • Valid U.S. Driver License is required for this position.
  • Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required.

  • Current state and federal handling permits for California freshwater shrimp (Syncaris pacifica).
  • Current state and federal handling permits for California red-legged frog, foothill yellow-legged frog, and other aquatic or semi-aquatic species occurring in the Bay Area.
  • Knowledgeable about common and special-status northern California wildlife and plant species.
  • Experience surveying for special-status species that may occur in the Northern San Francisco Bay Area, such as California freshwater shrimp, nesting birds, California red-legged frog, California tiger salamander, Foothill yellow legged frog, Northwestern pond turtle, Alameda Whipsnake, Giant garter snake, Swainson’s hawk, Burrowing owl, Ridgeway’s rail, Yellow billed cuckoo, Snowy plover, Marbled murrelet, Norther spotted owl, Salt marsh harvest mouse, Steelhead, Green sturgeon Delta smelt, Coho salmon, Western bumble bee, Vernal pool fairy shrimp, Valley elderberry longhorn beetle, Monarch butterfly, and others.
  • Experience with field data collection tools such as FieldMaps, ARC GIS Online, various GPS units, and others.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Organized with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work extended hours in diverse and challenging weather conditions while maintaining safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Surveys for California freshwater shrimp and other special-status wildlife and nesting birds.
  • Monitoring construction activities for compliance with environmental requirements and/or permits.
  • Preparation of reports documenting survey or monitoring results.
  • Travel to the North Bay Area will be required.
