Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Position Summary The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a senior executive responsible for overseeing the financial strategy, planning, and management of the company. In a solar company, the CFO plays a critical role in project finance, cash flow management, tax incentives (ITC), regulatory compliance, and supporting scalable growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field
  • 8–15+ years of progressive financial leadership experience
  • Experience in solar, renewable energy, construction, or project-based industries strongly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of project finance, tax equity, and capital structures
  • Proven experience managing cash flow in a high-growth environment
  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical and leadership skills
  • Deep understanding of solar economics and regulatory environment
  • Excellent communication and executive presence
  • High integrity, attention to detail, and problem-solving ability
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving industry

  • MBA or CPA preferred
  • Experience in solar, renewable energy, construction, or project-based industries strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the company’s financial strategy aligned with business goals and growth plans
  • Serve as a strategic partner to the CEO and executive leadership team
  • Provide financial insights to support decision-making, investments, and expansion
  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning
  • Analyze financial performance, margins, and project profitability
  • Prepare financial models for solar projects, acquisitions, and financing
  • Lead solar project financing, including debt, equity, tax equity, and PPA structures
  • Manage relationships with banks, investors, tax equity partners, and lenders
  • Optimize cash flow across construction, installation, and interconnection phases
  • Ensure accurate financial reporting in compliance with GAAP and regulatory standards
  • Oversee accounting, payroll, AP/AR, and internal controls
  • Manage audits, tax filings, and financial risk management
  • Oversee federal, state, and local solar incentives, including the Investment Tax Credit (ITC)
  • Ensure proper documentation and compliance for incentive programs
  • Coordinate with tax advisors and legal counsel
  • Monitor installation costs, labor, materials, and overhead to maintain profitability
  • Implement systems and processes to improve financial efficiency
  • Support pricing strategy and contract review
  • Build and manage the finance, accounting, and payroll teams
  • Oversee financial systems, ERP software, and reporting tools
  • Establish scalable processes to support company growth
