About The Position

The Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) is responsible for performing thorough inspections of welded, lined, and coated assemblies to ensure they meet all required standards. This includes visual inspections, verifying the correct use of welding equipment and adherence to applicable welding procedures. The inspector will also witness and supervise performance testing by outside agencies, document inspection results, and ensure requalification requirements are maintained. A key part of the role involves interpreting drawings and documents, inspecting and testing welded joints both in progress and completed, and ensuring dimensions, linings, and coatings conform to contract drawings and work order specifications. The CWI will also perform inspection and testing of production weld samples, linings, and coatings, while consistently upholding reliability, punctuality, and all safety standards.

Requirements

  • Certification as ASNT-TC-1A Level II in Magnetic Particle (MT), Dye Penetrate (PT), and Ultrasonic Testing (UT) NDE.
  • Physically able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Able to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Able to speak effectively before managers or groups of employees.
  • Able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Able to compute ratio and percent and to interpret bar graphs.
  • Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Able to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Able to read, understand and interpret job drawings and specifications.
  • Able to operate computer controlled hydrostatic test stand, including reading and interpreting console indicators and gauges, and using control console to conduct tests.
  • Valid Certificate of Welding Inspector (AWS QC1 CWI).
  • Able to manage a variety of tasks with conflicting priorities.

  • Ability to work at heights with harness.
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish) a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform inspections of welded, lined, and coated assemblies to verify that they meet required standards.

  • Perform inspection and testing of production weld samples, linings and coatings.
  • Be reliable and punctual.
  • Follow and enforce all safety standards.
