About The Position

Located in the heart of Houston Texas, we have an exciting opportunity to join our HVI OR team! We are an integrated health system known for world -class clinical expertise, patient -centered care, leading -edge technology, and innovation. This position is responsible for providing expert perioperative patient care through the use of specialized equipment and instrumentation. You will function as a scrub assistant to the physician performing complex operative and/or invasive cardiovascular procedures. Working under the direction of a Registered Nurse, you will use your expertise to act as a role model and resource for other staff.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist Program.
• Current Certification as a Surgical Technologist by the NBSTSA or NCCT.
• Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Minimum of two (2) years of CVOR (Open Heart) experience as a surgical technologist is required
• Demonstrated ability to perform independently as a first scrub in an acute care setting.

Responsibilities

• Perform independently as a first scrub in assigned cardiovascular specialty areas (Open Heart).
• Verify functioning and availability of supplies, instruments, and equipment prior to procedures based on surgeon preference cards.
• Demonstrate expert application of the principles of asepsis to provide optimal patient care.
• Provide support for the readiness and flow of cases to facilitate the overall functioning of the HVI unit.
• Support department -based goals and serve as a mentor to less experienced staff.
