About The Position

Located in the heart of Houston Texas, we have an exciting opportunity to join our HVI OR team! The Role: Expert Perioperative Care This position is responsible for providing expert perioperative patient care through the use of specialized equipment and instrumentation. You will function as a scrub assistant to the physician performing complex operative and/or invasive cardiovascular procedures. Working under the direction of a Registered Nurse, you will use your expertise to act as a role model and resource for other staff.

Requirements

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist Program.
  • License/Certification: Current Certification as a Surgical Technologist by the NBSTSA or NCCT.
  • Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of CVOR (Open Heart) experience as a surgical technologist is required.
  • Clinical Skills: Demonstrated ability to perform independently as a first scrub in an acute care setting.

Responsibilities

  • Specialized Scrub Support: Perform independently as a first scrub in assigned cardiovascular specialty areas (Open Heart).
  • Case Readiness: Verify functioning and availability of supplies, instruments, and equipment prior to procedures based on surgeon preference cards.
  • Clinical Excellence: Demonstrate expert application of the principles of asepsis to provide optimal patient care.
  • Unit Flow: Provide support for the readiness and flow of cases to facilitate the overall functioning of the HVI unit.
  • Professional Growth: Support department-based goals and serve as a mentor to less experienced staff.
