About The Position

The Certified Surgical Technician is responsible for providing assistance to the surgeon during the operating phase by passing instruments, draping and maintaining the sterile field, along with assisting the nursing staff in preparing the OR for the daily schedule. Job Relationships Reports to the applicable Manager Principal Responsibilities . Prepare and set up for surgical cases. Open packs, trays, instruments and sterile supplies for the surgical procedure maintaining sterile conditions. Count the circulating nurse sponges, needles and instruments according to Policy and Procedure Manual. Break down and clean OR rooms following each procedure. Check and maintain supplies in at end of scheduled cases. Update surgeon preference cards. Scrub and assist the physician during the operations. Assist nursing staff as needed. Assist with cleaning, packaging and sterilization of instruments and equipment. Advise the supervisor of equipment repair needs. Annual competencies for specific working area must be completed within designated month. Comply with the Springfield Clinic incident reporting policy and procedures. Adhere to all OSHA and Springfield Clinic training & accomplishments as required per policy. Provide excellent customer service and adhere to Springfield Clinic's Code of Conduct and Ethics Standards. Perform other job duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an OR technician program or equivalent training.
  • Previous experience as OR technician, two (2) years preferred.
  • CST Certification in the State of Illinois
  • CPR certification per American Heart Association guidelines required within 30 days of hire.
  • Occasional heavy lifting required.
  • Must possess manual dexterity to handle equipment and appliances.
  • Must possess good physical health.
  • Must have the ability to control emotions and maintain composure under stress, using tact and good judgment.
  • Must be capable of pushing, pulling, stooping, bending and lifting.
  • Must be able to stand and/or walk for long periods.
  • Must be able to adjust to various personalities and situations.
  • Must appear well groomed.
  • Maintain professional behavior.
  • Conditions include exposure to blood and body fluids, tissue and contagious diseases and/or potentially hazardous materials.
  • PHI/Privacy Level HIPAA1

Nice To Haves
