About The Position

College Achieve Public Schools is seeking a School Nurse for an elementary school in Paterson. The School Nurse supports student health and well-being through proactive medical care, prevention, and education. This role includes conducting health assessments, managing chronic and acute conditions, and coordinating care with families, school staff, and outside providers. The goal is to reduce health-related absences, improve student outcomes, and contribute to a safe and supportive learning environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing or related field
  • Current School Nurse license
  • Current CPR certification
  • Must meet qualifications of a School Nurse as defined by NJ State regulations
  • Must pass a criminal history background check
  • Strong clinical judgment and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of pediatric health, public health regulations, and school nursing standards
  • Effective communication and counseling abilities
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to work independently
  • Proficient with medical equipment and health record systems
  • Compassionate, student-centered approach
  • Must comply with OSHA, HIPAA, and school district safety regulations

  • Experience with school-aged children or in a pediatric or community health setting preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide health assessments, first aid, emergency care, and illness management to students and staff
  • Maintain accurate, confidential health records in accordance with state and federal guidelines
  • Conduct immunization compliance checks, physical screenings (vision, hearing, etc.), and health appraisals
  • Collaborate with staff and families to develop and implement Individualized Healthcare Plans (IHPs) and participate in IEP/504 teams as needed
  • Serve as the medical point of contact for students with chronic conditions, disabilities, or communicable diseases
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments in compliance with physician orders and district policy
  • Train staff on first aid, CPR, and protocols related to medical emergencies and bloodborne pathogens
  • Communicate with parents, school personnel, and healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care
  • Support district health initiatives and provide wellness education to students and staff
  • Participate in health data reporting and maintain required state documentation
  • Serve on crisis teams and contribute to the school safety plan and emergency preparedness
  • Provide guidance and counseling to students on health-related issues
  • Perform other duties as assigned by school leaders
