If you’re looking for a place to do meaningful work, build a career, and feel proud serving your community—you belong at St. Joe’s Job Summary The Certified Pharmacy Technician under the direct supervision of the Director of Pharmacy or Registered Pharmacist and according to the standards procedures, dispenses additives for IV and irrigating solutions, mixes IV additive solutions as required using aseptic techniques with the laminar air flow hood, types labels, prepares and files charge slips and performs other related duties. Reports to the Director of Pharmacy

Requirements

  • Must read, write and speak fluent English.
  • Must have good and regular attendance.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Licensure as required by the state.
  • Current PTCB certification or equivalent certification/training program as required by state.
  • Basic understanding of the role of and use of computers in the processing of prescription orders with minimum work processing skills.
  • Proven experience with maintaining positive relationships with co-workers and customers.

  • Prefer 1 year experience as a Certified Pharmacy Technician in a hospital pharmacy setting.

Responsibilities

  • Assists Pharmacist to prepare and dispense medication.
  • Mixes pharmaceutical preparations, fills bottles with prescribed tablets and capsules, and prepares labels for bottles.
  • Fills orders with correct medications. Prepares unit of use dosage when possible.
  • Processes records of medication and equipment dispensed to patients, computes charges, and enters data in computer.
  • Prepares intravenous (IV) packs.
  • Generates required reports, pick IV production reports. Performs backup procedures correctly.
  • Recycles product as appropriate. Changes prep and expiration date on recycled products.
  • Dates, times and initials all vials for reuse.
  • Prioritizes work (i.e. stats made first). Delivers IVS to proper locations. Restocks shelves and rotates stock. Properly disposes of non-recyclable solutions. Maintains IV refrigerator temperature log.
  • Receives and stores incoming supplies.
  • Counts stock and enters data in computer to maintain inventory records.
  • Returns medications to stock and rotates stock. Fills requisitions from nursing floors in a timely fashion. Can calculate appropriate medication doses based on patient’s age adult and geriatrics.
  • Cleans equipment and sterilizes glassware according to prescribed methods.
  • Sterile compounding of IV medications using aseptic technique according to 797 guidelines.
  • Restock automated dispensing cabinets.
  • Participate in tech-check-tech process during medication restocks.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
