Assist in the various activities of the pharmacy department to provide quality patient care. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Major Job Functions The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below. In addition, specific functions may change from time to time: Assist in medication preparation by selecting, counting, compounding, reconstituting, packaging, and labeling per established departmental guidelines Maintain and replenish up-to-date inventory of medications and supplies stored Stock and replace emergency crash carts, drug boxes, as well as other specialty floor stocked items (RSI kits, NICU Transport Box, etc.) throughout the health system Refill and deliver unit dose cart fill, pyxis batches, parenteral TPN’s, IV admixture, and any bulk stock items in a timely manner to the correct patient care area Ability to perform sterile and non-sterile compounding, once trained, following all procedures as outlined by pharmacy Perform nursing unit inspections as assigned and participate in the department’s surveillance program for eliminating expired medications from the health system Maintains and protects patients’ and hospital employees’ right to privacy as evidenced by the securing of confidential records and release of information to authorized persons only Assists in precepting and training of new pharmacy technicians and pharmacy students Orients and becomes competent in inventory, controlled substance, compounding, obtaining medication histories, and automated dispensing cabinet operations within first year of hire date Other duties as assigned
