About The Position

Cayuga Counseling Services, Inc. seeks a Full-time (40 hours/week) Certified Peer Specialist who can provide non-clinical peer support services using lived experience of recovery to support individuals in resiliency, engagement, and wellness.

Requirements

  • New York State Certified Peer Specialist required (or provisional)
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Must have a valid NYS driver's license and insurance.
  • Lived experience with emotional, behavioral, developmental delays or mental health disorder required.
  • Ability to model recovery and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Strong communication and engagement skills
  • Trauma-informed and culturally responsive practice.
  • Must have extensive knowledge of community services and the ability to work cooperatively with other providers: must have ability to document activities accurately.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group peer support services to care givers within MHOTRS and Trauma and Resiliency Service programs through face to face, telephone, email and telehealth meetings with the family.
  • Provide peer services Support individuals in self-advocacy, empowerment, and informed decision making.
  • Serve as a bridge between individuals and providers during transition care .
  • Assist individuals in identifying needs, determining available community and natural resources and advocating for those services.
  • Attend multidisciplinary team meetings and participate in supervision.
  • Assists individuals in identifying strengths upon which to build a foundation of improved communication and coping skills.
  • Use electronic health record to complete documentation requirements in a timely manner per program guidelines.
  • Complete family assessment tools and surveys as required.
  • Represent Cayuga Counseling Services at community, state and national forums as assigned .
  • Build relationships with mental health and advocacy organizations.
  • Assist in the facilitation of the mental health support group.
  • Complete Bi-annual required training and documentation of NYS Certified Peer Advocate credentialing.
  • Follows Medicaid rules and regulations for billing.
  • Follows HIPPA regulations and acquire appropriate releases of information.
  • Preforms other duties as required.
