Berks Counseling Center is a recovery-oriented behavioral health, physical health, and supportive services organization providing a holistic approach to a culturally and economically diverse population for the purpose of achieving a healthy and productive lifestyle. As a Certified Peer Specialist, you will be an active member of the integrated care team. The peer specialist uses their own unique experiences to teach and support consumers in building skills and resources to facilitate individual recovery.

Requirements

A PCB Certified Peer Specialist certification
To attest mental health diagnosis and stage of recovery
If you have a dual substance use disorder, you will need to be at least 2 years in recovery.
Ability to work 40 hours per week within agency hours of operation, which are 8am-8pm Mon-Thurs, 8am-4pm Friday with Saturday hours, when applicable.
SEEING: Must be able to see well enough to read reports and use computer.
COMMUNICATING: Must be able to communicate well enough to clients, vendors, and coworkers.
MOBILITY: Must have mobility to move about the agency. Must have mobility to move about the community.
LIFTING/PULLING/PUSHING: Must be able to lift up to 5 pounds.
OTHER: Must be able to write, type and use technology.
Receipt of results of a satisfactory drug and alcohol screening test.
Receipt of the originals of the following background checks: PA State Police Criminal History, PA State Child Abuse, and DPW FBI Criminal History. These clearances must be valid within the 60 months prior to employment. A conviction is not a bar to employment; however, a review will be conducted to make a determination of employment should a conviction be present.
Receipt of original documentation and verification of relevant degrees, diplomas, certificates, or licensure.
Confirmation that you are not on the OIG Federal Healthcare Program Exclusion from Participation list. Should you appear on this list, Berks Counseling Center is prohibited from employing you.

Nice To Haves

Be Bilingual: English/Spanish preferred.
Have Knowledge of or experience with trauma-informed approaches preferred.

Responsibilities

Serve as an active member of the multi-disciplinary treatment team.
Effectively assess consumers’ skills, strengths and needs that will support ongoing mental health recovery.
Develop and/or have input into the professional development of a treatment plan that will promote recovery.
Assist consumers in identifying Personal Medicine, writing Power Statements, and completion of the Common Ground Health Report.
Assist consumers in overcoming barriers to care.
Help identify resources and educate consumers about community social service supports that might be available.
