About The Position

The Ophthalmology Technician - Certified assists ophthalmologists in providing high-quality care to patients by performing diagnostic tests, preparing patients for procedures, and maintaining clinical equipment. This role supports the delivery of efficient and effective eye care by ensuring accurate documentation, maintaining a clean and safe clinical environment, and fostering positive patient experiences. Requirements

  • 0-2 years of experience in an ophthalmology clinical setting required
  • Knowledge of ophthalmologic procedures, equipment, and diagnostic tests.
  • Proficiency in EMR systems and other healthcare software.
  • Strong communication skills to provide patient education and collaborate with clinical staff.
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills for maintaining accurate patient records and clinical workflows.
  • COT - Certified Ophthalmic Medical Tech required or
  • COA - Certified Ophthalmic Assistant required
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support required

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patients for ophthalmologic examinations by recording medical histories, verifying medications, and documenting chief complaints.
  • Performs diagnostic tests and imaging such as visual field tests, OCT, and fundus photography, under the direction of the ophthalmologist.
  • Assists in minor ophthalmologic procedures, ensuring sterile technique and proper equipment setup.
  • Educates patients about medications, post-procedure care, and follow-up instructions as directed by the ophthalmologist.
  • Maintains and calibrates clinical equipment, ensuring functionality and compliance with safety standards.
  • Manages patient records in the electronic medical record (EMR) system, ensuring accuracy and adherence to HIPAA regulations.
  • Collaborates with the care team to schedule follow-up appointments, tests, or procedures as needed.
  • Ensures a clean and organized clinical environment by following infection control protocols and regulatory guidelines.
  • Monitors inventory levels of medical supplies and coordinates restocking to support uninterrupted clinic operations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
