About The Position

Seven Hills Rhode Island is seeking a skilled and compassionate Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) to provide specialized, high-quality therapeutic support to students in a collaborative, student-centered environment. Working under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist, this role implements individualized occupational therapy programs, supports evaluations, and contributes to a safe, well-organized clinical setting while upholding ethical standards and service excellence. Requirements

  • Strong foundation in occupational therapy practices and therapeutic interventions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Responsive, organized, and reliable
  • Sound clinical judgment and ethical decision-making
  • Ability to build rapport with students, families, and interdisciplinary teams
  • Comfortable providing hands-on therapy while respecting student dignity and rights
  • License: Current or eligible Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) license
  • Education: Associate degree required
  • Experience: Minimum one year of related experience
  • Driver’s License: Valid Class C or D license

Responsibilities

  • Implement occupational therapy treatment plans as directed by the supervising Occupational Therapist
  • Support student independence through:
  • Self-care and activities of daily living (feeding, dressing, hygiene)
  • Sensory integration and environmental awareness techniques
  • Age-appropriate functional activities to support fine/gross motor, cognitive, and perceptual development
  • Therapeutic exercise to improve strength, coordination, and range of motion
  • Positioning, handling, and adaptive equipment use
  • Wheelchair mobility and functional movement programs
  • Compensatory strategies for sensory-motor impairments
  • Assist with student evaluations and monitor progress; report changes in status or response to treatment
  • Complete timely and accurate documentation in student records
  • Participate in team meetings, conferences, and interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Fabricate and maintain adaptive equipment and splints as directed
  • Maintain therapy equipment, inventory, and requisitions
  • Instruct staff and caregivers on habilitation techniques and student-specific care strategies
  • Support staff development, in-services, and student case presentations
  • Assist with orientation of new staff and supervision of assistant-level students, as assigned
  • Participate in quality improvement, research, and program development initiatives
  • Respond appropriately to emergency situations
  • Adhere to all Seven Hills policies, procedures, and mandatory trainings
  • Perform other duties as assigned
