About The Position

Texas NeuroRehab is a specialized treatment facility located ten minutes from downtown Austin on 67 wooded acres and has operated as a medical and behavioral healthcare facility for over 80 years. Texas NeuroRehab Center is currently accepting applications for a OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST & COTA- FULL TIME. Candidates will possess skills in the rehabilitation of neurologically impaired patients. Texas NeuroRehab Center specializes in provision of rehabilitation services to traumatic and non-traumatic brain injury, stroke, and spinal cord injury populations, ages 13 and older.

Requirements

  • Requires a thorough knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, and the effect of treatment procedures on body functions and structure.
  • Knowledge and understanding of musculoskeletal dysfunction and neurological dysfunction and the effect a rehabilitation program has on self-care, mobility, cognition, and overall functional living skills.
  • Associates Degree
  • Current Driver's License or State issued Id.
  • Current license from the state of Texas.
  • Certification in CPR.
  • One-year experience in a neurorehabilitation setting.
  • Able to sustain activity eight hours a day.
  • Able to remain on feet eight hours per day.
  • Able to confront a dangerous and aggressive patient.
  • Able to verbally communicate to de-escalate a crisis situation, explain treatment to the patient to allow active participation, and to protect self and others from aggressive patients or other incidents.
  • Able to restrain patients by individual or team restraint per facility policy.
  • Able to frequently lift, carry, and lower 50 pounds without assistance.
  • Able to kneel, stoop, bend, and pull various weights or items (up to 50 pounds).
  • Able to push patients in wheelchairs up and down hills, pursue running patients, and traverse hospital grounds.
  • Able to transfer patients to and from wheelchairs.
  • Able to visually observe so as to convey patient behavior verbally or in writing.
  • Able to write legibly and grammatically so as to convey patient behavior and information in the patient's medical record.
  • Able to read medical records and other reports.
  • Able to use hands repetitively.
  • Ability to use hands to grasp, type, and write (fine motor skills).
  • Regular and expected attendance.
  • Hearing and vision sufficient to perform essential job functions.
