About The Position

The Nursing Assistant must perform all duties in accordance with standards and methods generally accepted within the field of Nursing Assistant services, and in compliance with all Federal and State policy and regulations. The Nursing Assistant will assist the Nursing staff by checking the patient's vital signs and weight, and document this data and pertinent observations in the patient's electronic medical record (EMR). Charts patient care given and other data on the flow sheet and/or graphic sheet.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must process a High School Certificate of Graduation or GED.
  • Certified as a Nursing Assistant IV.
  • Must hold current CPR certification from the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association.
  • Must have a minimum of two (2) years of documented experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant.
  • Have knowledge of routine office-related duties, including working knowledge of computers and word processing programs

Responsibilities

  • Providing chair-side assistance to the Clinical Director and Medical officers.
  • Assists Registered Nurses in performing patient care activities for inmate patients.
  • Maintains sanitation of patient care areas and observes infection control procedures and universal precautions in all instances.
  • Procures necessary equipment, maintains clean and sterile fields, secures specimens for laboratory analysis (e.g., urine, stool, sputum), labels specimens, and transports them to the laboratory.
  • Reports pertinent data in a timely manner to the medical staff, including changes in the patient's condition requiring assessment and/or further intervention.
  • Communicates any changes in behavior, vital signs, or significant incidents to the Physician, Mid-Level Provider, or Clinical Nurse.
  • Utilizes good body mechanics when transferring and/or assisting patients.
  • Safely transports patients in wheelchairs and/or on gurneys.
  • Clerical duties such as scheduling of patient appointments, maintaining daily activity logs, maintaining stock supplies, and identifying supplies needing to be ordered.
  • Follows guidelines that require confidentiality with all patient information.
  • Performs other duties as directed, including but not limited to filing and/or scanning medical documents into patients' EMR and stamping chart forms, etc.
  • Checks patient vital signs and weight and documents this data and pertinent observations in the patient's electronic medical record (EMR). Charts patient care given and other data on the flow sheet and/or graphic sheet.
  • Maintaining accountability of instruments and other medical supplies.
  • Performing equipment maintenance per manufacturer and/or Clinical Director instructions.
  • Accomplishing minor repairs to keep equipment in proper operating condition.
  • Participating in or completing Improving Organizational Performance (IOP) activities and/or studies.
  • Participation in emergency training exercises and maintaining skills in the operation of emergency equipment.
  • Providing the Clinical Director's approved patient education to inmate patients.
  • Assists with dressing changes and removes dressings in the direction of the physician.
  • Responsible for all other duties and tasks assigned by supervisor.
  • All duties and tasks will be performed in accordance with the Program Review and Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC).
  • Maintaining current CPR -Health Care Provider certification.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Clinical Director or designee.
