About The Position

The Certified Medication Aide (CMA) plays a critical role in supporting the health and well-being of residents within a long-term skilled nursing facility. This position is responsible for the safe and accurate administration of medications under the supervision of licensed nursing staff, ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards. The CMA contributes to the overall care plan by monitoring residents for medication effectiveness and potential side effects, promptly reporting any concerns to the healthcare team. This role requires a compassionate approach, attention to detail, and strong communication skills to interact effectively with residents, families, and interdisciplinary team members. Ultimately, the CMA helps maintain a high standard of care that promotes resident safety, comfort, and quality of life in a long-term care environment.

Requirements

  • Current certification as a Medication Aide in the state of employment.
  • MEDICAL ASSISTANTS DO NOT QUALIFY
  • Completion of a state-approved Medication Aide training program.
  • Valid certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR.
  • Experience working in a long-term skilled nursing facility or similar healthcare setting.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening as required by the employer.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience administering medications in a long-term care or skilled nursing environment.
  • Familiarity with electronic medication administration records (eMAR) systems.
  • Additional certifications related to geriatric care or chronic disease management.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with experience in resident-centered care approaches.
  • Continuing education in medication safety and healthcare regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Administer prescribed medications to residents according to established protocols and under the supervision of licensed nurses.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medication records, including documentation of administration times, dosages, and any observed reactions.
  • Monitor residents for adverse reactions or side effects related to medications and report findings promptly to nursing staff.
  • Assist in the preparation and organization of medication carts and supplies to ensure efficient medication delivery.
  • Communicate effectively with residents to explain medication purposes and address any questions or concerns they may have.
  • Collaborate with nursing and healthcare team members to support individualized care plans and ensure continuity of care.
  • Adhere strictly to all facility policies, state regulations, and safety standards related to medication administration and resident care.
