About The Position

A healthcare organization is seeking an experienced Certified Medical Coder with strong expertise in outpatient and emergency department (ED) coding. This role begins with short-term onsite training and transitions to a remote work arrangement. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Certification required: CCS or CCP (through AHIMA) or RHIA/RHIT
• Minimum 3+ years of coding experience (4+ years preferred)
• Strong experience in outpatient and ED coding (required)
• Knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and coding guidelines
• Experience with EPIC and 3M coding systems (required)
• Understanding of anatomy, physiology, and disease processes
• Strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel, coding software)
• Ability to work independently with minimal training

Responsibilities

• Perform medical coding for outpatient and emergency department services
• Assign accurate codes using ICD-10, CPT, and applicable coding systems
• Ensure compliance with coding, payer, and federal billing guidelines
• Review clinical documentation for accuracy and completeness
• Utilize coding tools and software (e.g., EPIC, 3M encoder systems)
• Research and resolve coding-related issues
• Maintain accurate records and meet productivity/quality standards
