About The Position

The Certified Medical Coder is responsible for accurately coding outpatient and emergency department (ED) medical records in an acute care setting. The role requires strong knowledge of coding guidelines, reimbursement processes, and clinical documentation.

Requirements

  • CCS or CCP certification (must be from AHIMA, RHIA, or RHIT)
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum 3 years of medical coding experience
  • Strong knowledge of ICD-10, CPT coding systems
  • Experience in outpatient and emergency department (ED) coding
  • Proficiency with EPIC and 3M coding applications
  • Strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Encoder tools)
  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and disease processes

Nice To Haves

  • 4+ years of outpatient coding experience
  • Strong emergency department coding background

Responsibilities

  • Perform medical coding for outpatient and emergency department records
  • Assign accurate ICD-10, CPT, and related codes based on documentation
  • Ensure compliance with federal, payer, and regulatory coding guidelines
  • Utilize coding tools and software for efficient and accurate coding
  • Review and analyze clinical documentation for completeness and accuracy
  • Research and resolve coding-related issues
  • Maintain productivity and quality standards
  • Support training and knowledge sharing within the coding team
