About The Position

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) supports physicians and clinical teams by assisting with patient care, clinical procedures, and administrative tasks to ensure efficient clinic operations. This role plays a key part in maintaining patient flow, accurate documentation, and a safe, compliant clinical environment.

Requirements

  • Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, EMR, and scheduling systems
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to interact professionally with patients, physicians, visitors, coworkers, and vendors
  • Willingness and ability to travel to other clinic locations as needed
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)

Nice To Haves

  • 2–5 years of experience as a Medical Assistant or in a related clinical role
  • Experience across multiple care settings (e.g., Primary Care, Specialty Clinics, EMT, etc.)
  • Additional clinical skills such as phlebotomy, EKGs, suture removal, splinting, and similar procedures
  • Associate Degree
  • Certified or Registered Medical Assistant credential from an accredited certifying body

Responsibilities

  • Assist physicians with patient examinations and treatments following established clinical protocols
  • Maintain efficient patient flow during clinic hours to support timely and effective care delivery
  • Obtain and document vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, respirations, height, and weight
  • Perform and document review of systems; update medical, social, and family histories
  • Reconcile and update medication lists at each patient visit
  • Accurately document patient information in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
  • Prepare patient charts in the EMR by scanning, abstracting, and reviewing diagnostic tests and external medical records
  • Coordinate with external facilities or systems to obtain missing patient documentation
  • Serve as an EMR Super User when assigned and assist with onboarding and training of new staff
  • Refill and pre-authorize medications by coordinating with patients, pharmacies, and insurance providers
  • Track medication samples and clinical supplies; dispose of expired medications per policy
  • Prepare and maintain examination rooms, ensuring cleanliness, organization, and adequate supplies
  • Complete patient assistance forms and documentation requests as needed
  • Collect and relay pertinent patient information to support clinical decision-making
  • Manage inbound and outbound patient communications, including phone calls and patient portal messages
  • Process EMR in-baskets, work queues, daily workflow logs, and practice management tasks
  • Answer incoming calls, schedule appointments, check patients in and out, and complete pre-certifications
  • Perform clinical procedures as assigned, including EKGs, cardiac monitoring, vaccinations, phlebotomy, and cast removal
  • Maintain a safe, secure, and compliant clinical environment in accordance with policies and regulations
  • Protect patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and ethical standards
  • Demonstrate understanding of quality measures, patient safety initiatives, and patient experience standards
