About The Position

The Certified Medical Assistant is an integral part of the team, collaborating closely with primary care physicians to deliver outstanding patient care within the Medical Assisting scope and state guidelines. This role involves reviewing and updating health records, measuring vital signs, and preparing treatment rooms for examinations.

Requirements

  • High School Degree or GED
  • Active Medical Assisting certification from one of the following: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA); American Association of Medical Assisting, Registered Medical Assistant (RMA); American Medical Technologists, Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA); National Healthcareer Association (NHA); Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA); National Association for Health Professionals, National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA); National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
  • If incumbent is unable to obtain MA certification, an Assessment-Based Recognition in Order Entry (ABR-OE) is acceptable (not accepted in the state of South Carolina)
  • BLS Basic Life Support, American Heart Association (required at hire for Roper St Francis Healthcare locations; preferred at hire, required prior to independent patient care at BSMH)
  • Possesses problem-solving skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Engage with staff and patients in a professional manner

Nice To Haves

  • One year of medical assistant healthcare experience
  • Two years of clerical experience in a physician’s office

Responsibilities

  • Provides excellent customer service skills by greeting patients and the community in a respectful manner
  • Prepares & reviews patient charts for upcoming visits by verifying that all diagnostic test results, hospital reports, and other medical records are correct and up to date
  • Measures vital signs such as pulse rate, respiration, blood pressure, weight, and height
  • Performs departmental-related clerical duties such as checking inventory, stock supplies, track referrals, and answer phones as needed
  • Must possess the ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems promptly
  • Other duties as assigned
