About The Position

Texas Oncology is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to support the Surgical Department for the Breast Surgeon at the Med Center and Westover Hills, San Antonio, Tx locations. Texas Oncology is the largest community oncology provider in the country with approximately 600+ providers in 220+ sites across Texas and southeastern Oklahoma. The Certified Medical Assistant assists physicians and clinicians with patient care duties in a clinical environment, promoting efficient patient flow and care, including exams and procedures. The role also involves clinic support tasks such as clerical duties, answering phones, and maintaining physician schedules. The position requires adherence to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

Requirements

High school graduate or equivalent.
0-3 years experience as a medical assistant or nursing assistant (for Level 1).
Current BCLS certification required within 3 months of hire.
Some state regulations may require specific certifications in order to work as a Medical Assistant.
Minimum three years experience as a medical assistant or nursing assistant (for Level 2).
Minimum five years experience as a medical assistant or nursing assistant in a hospital or clinic setting (for Level Sr).
Current CPR certification required (for Level Sr).

Nice To Haves

Certificate of graduation from an accredited program for Medical Assistants preferred.
Certified Medical Assistant preferred.
Phlebotomy experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Escorts patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment room as appropriate.
Records patient data prior to each physician visit, including but not limited to, vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
Obtains all necessary patient records as required by physician prior to treatment or procedures.
Prepares and stocks exam/treatment rooms and orders supplies as needed.
Assists physicians with exams and procedures as requested.
Administers subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, as delegated by RN or physician.
Maintains all exam/treatment room disinfection protocols.
Answers patient telephone calls for referral to physician or nurse/pharmacist.
Phones in prescriptions and makes other patient calls as directed by physicians and RN.
Informs physician of patient reschedules and no shows.
Performs other administrative duties, i.e. typing, filing faxing, chart preparation, reception, etc, as requested by supervisor or physician.
May enter orders under a provider’s direction and supervision.
