About The Position

Texas Oncology is looking for a Certified Medical Assistant to join their team, supporting the Northeast, San Antonio, Tx location with typical hours from Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm. Texas Oncology is the largest community oncology provider in the country, with approximately 600+ providers across 220+ sites in Texas and southeastern Oklahoma. The organization's mission is to deliver high-quality, high-touch, evidence-based cancer care using leading-edge technology and research, allowing patients to fight cancer at home with family and friends nearby. Texas Oncology treats half of all Texans diagnosed with cancer annually. Under direct supervision, the Certified Medical Assistant assists physicians and clinicians with patient care duties in a clinical environment, promoting efficient patient flow and care during exams and procedures. The role also includes clinic support tasks such as clerical duties, answering phones, and maintaining physician schedules. The CMA/RMA is expected to support and adhere to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Current BCLS certification required within 3 months of hire (for Level 1).
  • Minimum three years experience as a medical assistant or nursing assistant (for Level 2).
  • Minimum five years experience as a medical assistant or nursing assistant in a hospital or clinic setting (for Level Sr).
  • Current CPR certification required (for Level Sr).

Nice To Haves

  • Certificate of graduation from an accredited program for Medical Assistants preferred.
  • Certified Medical Assistant preferred.
  • Phlebotomy experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Escorts patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment room as appropriate.
  • Records patient data prior to each physician visit, including but not limited to, vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
  • Obtains all necessary patient records as required by physician prior to treatment or procedures.
  • Prepares and stocks exam/treatment rooms and orders supplies as needed.
  • Assists physicians with exams and procedures as requested.
  • Administers subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, as delegated by RN or physician.
  • Maintains all exam/treatment room disinfection protocols.
  • Answers patient telephone calls for referral to physician or nurse/pharmacist.
  • Phones in prescriptions and makes other patient calls as directed by physicians and RN.
  • Informs physician of patient reschedules and no shows.
  • Performs other administrative duties, i.e. typing, filing faxing, chart preparation, reception, etc, as requested by supervisor or physician.
  • May enter orders under a provider’s direction and supervision.
