About The Position

The Medical Assistant provides patient care and support within an ambulatory setting. Key duties include patient interviews, specimen collection (except for Virtualist Program), assisting physicians with exams (except for Virtualist Program), maintaining inventory, and providing patient education. The role also involves performing phlebotomy for diagnostic studies (except for Virtualist Program), CLIA waived testing (except for Virtualist Program), and potentially EKGs and drug/alcohol testing. This position contributes to organizational goals through quality customer service, performance improvement, and teamwork. For the Virtualist Program, the Medical Assistant collects patient intakes remotely and assists in telehealth visits as directed by the physician, without hands-on patient exams, procedures, specimen collection, or phlebotomy. BLS certification is excluded for the Virtualist Program.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant program
  • BLSHCP certified within six months of hire or transfer (excluded for Virtualist Program)
  • Graduate of a post-secondary Medical Assistance program accredited by a national accrediting agency, with a minimum of 330 hours of instruction, with special training around medication administration as per the NJ Board of Medical Examiners
  • Maintain active National Certification with a certifying agency approved by NJ (i.e. American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) National Center of Competency Testing (NCCT), National Health Career Association (NHA) or American Medical Technologist (AMT), Board of Medical Examiners (BME))
  • Ability to handle high volume of interactions with frequent interruptions
  • Proficiency in Clinical Applications (required within 30-60 days from date of hire, training provided)

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in Phlebotomy ASCP
  • 1-3 years of prior experience in Ambulatory care
  • Proficiency in Clinical Applications at time of hire

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient care and support within the ambulatory setting

  • Perform CLIA waived testing (except for Virtualist Program)
  • Complete EKG's and drug and alcohol testing (as required)
  • Support organizational goals by providing quality customer service
  • Participate in performance improvement efforts
  • Demonstrate a commitment to team work and cooperation
  • Collect patient intakes remotely (as part of the Virtualist Program)
  • Assist in telehealth visits as directed by the physician (as part of the Virtualist Program)
